What’s going on! It’s my third and penultimate post of the week and I still have a tonne to write! October is one of my busiest months, with literature festivals, film festivals, fashion shows and everything else in between. I’m going to dedicate this post however, to one of my favourite things in the whole wide world – fashion. Clothes are so much more than garments; they’re an extension of you and by proxy, your thoughts and feelings. Before I OD on the philosophy I would just like to add that your clothes represent you and the phrase “wear your heart on your sleeve” springs to mind.
I’ve adored fashion from an early age and continue loving it into kidulthood. From coveting the wardrobe of The Spice Girls (oh come on, we all go through phases and besides, moon-boots were sooo in then), to the now sophisticated get-up of Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith, I love to study sartorialism. I can while away numerous hours trend-forecasting (but only when I’m not writing the exciting follow-up to my first book). I have to be really strict with myself and find studying fashion more of a release / time-out, if you get what I mean.
The fashion calendar is always busy, with designers being in a state of perpetual flux as they flaunt their designs on catwalks around the world. From Paris to Milan, from London to New York, delectable and often downright bizarre creations are showcased by gorgeous clothes-horses. I have been poring over various look-books from the past few months and am putting together a “What’s Hot Guide” for trends that will be prevalent over the upcoming seasons. I’ll be publishing this mini-fashion bible imminently, so keep tuned in.
I love how key trends find their way onto the high street. A beautiful but crazily outlandish garment on the catwalk is toned down, the essence captured and muted for its high street reincarnation. Case in point is Chanel’s moon-sized summer beach tote; guaranteed there will be a plethora of over-sized bags during January Trans 2013. Speaking of the high street, I was live-blogging from a fashion show earlier today and was very impressed by the current high street offerings. A full report will follow shortly. Enough about me.
