I love food and drink pairing, and have particular respect for eating establishments that take wine flights seriously. Whenever I review restaurants, the wine list is one of the first things I see, and I am always pleased by a decent wine offering. Alchemilla is one such restaurant that is leading the way in food pairing, and I am so very pleased to hear about its latest collaboration with Little Beauty. Alchemilla will be holding a paired wine flight with a specially created tasting menu from Alchemilla’s chef Alex Bond on 30th October 2018.

The evening will commence with bar snacks on arrival and then guests will sit down to enjoy a seven-course menu which will be accompanied by a guided wine tasting by Fleur McCree the owner and inspiration behind Little Beauty, a stunning estate in Marlborough, New Zealand.

The evening will be a small gathering designed to ensure that all guests have a great experience and truly get to learn about the wines and their distinctive characteristics. Alex Bond has devised a special menu to match and enhance the different wines selected for the evening.

Little Beauty’s home is the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough, a place of great natural beauty with unique climatic conditions. Summers are generally long and dry with bright sunlight. Nights are cool and clear. These qualities create perfect conditions for growing ripe, intensely flavoured fruit. The Little Beauty vines are nestled in a sheltered part of the region known as the Southern Valleys and this area produces distinct characters not found in other parts of Marlborough.

Little Beauty is also made using 100% Sustainable Winegrowing techniques – and the vineyard has been awarded New Zealand’s 100% Sustainable Accreditation, elements which are extremely important to Alchemilla, as Alex Bond said: “Little Beauty shares our philosophy of trying to create a sustainable business. They are a perfect supplier for our restaurant. Not only that, they are so distinctive in character that they work really well with our menus.”

This is the second of a series of special evenings organised by Alchemilla for the Autumn, the first of which is a guest chef collaboration with Tony Parkin on 9th October.

The cost of the evening will be £115 for the food and wine pairing and places can be booked by calling Alchemilla on 0115 9413515.  Spaces are strictly limited, so guests are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
