At the time of writing, there are 4.1million confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide, 277,434 deaths and latent confidence of a vaccine that can be brought to market any time soon. It’s a new virus that has sparked draconian measures, never before seen in peacetime UK.

I’ll be honest – I’ve stopped watching the news on a daily basis, instead catching the headlines on Channel 4 around once a week. I find the news scary, and the handling of this pandemic by world leaders (bar Jacinda Ardern and Angela Merkel) gets me very cross.

With all this going on, I wanted to check in and ask: How are you coping during these odd, disconcerting times?

I find I am cooking and reading more, and I am grateful for the extra time I get to focus on personal projects. I am rediscovering my cookbook collection, which otherwise would remain untouched. Hot favourites at the moment are Asma’s Indian Kitchen (Asma Khan), Tin Can Cook (Jack Monroe), Dishoom and Spuntino (Russell Norman). I loved cooking the carrot halva from Asma’s book – more on that later – but this week has mainly been about house-keeping and tidying up loose ends, before launching full on into my fiction in upcoming weeks.

If you write, or are a creator (be it physical or digital content), when is the best time for you to create? I would love to know. Personally, I am a night owl, and I’m trying writing my best work in the daytime. I’ll let you know how I get on with that. I’m in the middle of fleshing out two food blogs, so do keep your eyes peeled for those over the course of this bank holiday weekend.

Stay safe, and don’t forget to wash your hands.

Ria 🙂
