There’s a line-up of fabulous events taking place at Lunya, Manchester’s truly authentic, independent Catalan restaurant, bar and deli, during February. All designed to celebrate Catalan and Spanish food and drink, the events are a celebration of Catalan culture, and the food and drink at the heart of it all.

Ham Carving Masterclass 25th February 6.30pm
Lunya has been hosting their famous Ham-Carving Masterclass for the past seven years and it is a must-do for quality, artisan ham lovers. It is hosted by Lunya’s expert ham carvers (with over a decade of experience) and is a great way to learn about Lunya’s world class Spanish and Catalan hams and how to carve and best enjoy it. The night includes a demonstration carving with Trevélez Serrano, Ibérico and Bellota hams, an expert talk by owner Peter Kinsella himself and a chance for everyone one to practice this special skilscarving. It’s all followed by a ham and wine feast with three wines paired to each of the hams as well as snacks and tapitas.

I have dined at Lunya a few years’ ago and found it be rather lovely. This independent, family-run eatery is now home to the one of the biggest Spanish delis in the country, and the biggest online deli in the UK with over 1300 products available. I dined in the beautiful restaurant, and it was a real pleasure sipping Spanish wine.

Totally devoted to sourcing the finest artisan produce and cuisine direct from Spain, the Lunya team are passionate about sharing the Spanish approach to eating and drinking – that is, great food enjoyed socially and democratically with no fuss.

Owners Peter and Elaine visit Spain regularly, seeking out the very best suppliers, with whom they have established strong relationships – and they’re always developing new ones. Their explorations have uncovered exquisite products, which they buy direct from the farmers, fishermen and women, meat curers, cheese makers and a whole host of different artisan producers of fine food. It is these magnificent ingredients that make the Lunya restaurant experience so special, and I cannot wait to visit again (it has been too long).
