If you’re anything like me, you’ll already be filling up your diary with exciting events in 2017. If you love rum (I use it in cooking and in cocktails), then this will be music to your ears. The UK’s first travelling Rum Festival kicks off its 2017 tour in Nottingham, bringing you rum, cocktails, food, and music from around the globe.
On Friday 24 February, Studio 7 at Nottingham University will be hosting a brand new and original two-day event that will see the launch of the UK’s first travelling Rum Festival.
The Rum Festival, is a party with cocktails, street-food, music. It will also introduce you to over 100 different rums from around the globe.
I really cannot wait for this, and will be reporting from this over one very special weekend. I was first introduced to gin last year, and I think 2017 is the big one for rum.
At the festival, upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the sound of the Caribbean as Francis and The Steel Drum Bands play some classic Caribbean vibes and a steely twist on your favourite tunes.
Lucy Douglas, founder of the festival said, “Francis and The Steel Drum Band are joining us in both Nottingham and Birmingham. The music is infectious and fun, and I’m sure you won’t be able to resist dancing along!”
So what can you expect?
On arrival, you will be greeted by a Rum’un; handed your Rum Festival glass (a gift for you to take home) and a brochure, full of information on all the rums you can try, fun facts about each of the suppliers and the suggested garnish to compliment your drink.
Drinks vouchers to taste the rums will be available from a stand in the main hall. If you’re new to rum don’t worry, the friendly Rum’uns will recommend a few to get you going or tell you all about their favourites.
Throughout the event there will be live entertainment and dancing; live blogs from rum industry experts, tasty food to buy and above all lots of fun. At the Nottingham event, The Rum Festival’s cocktail team will be on hand to mix you some of the tastiest rum cocktails on the planet!
