*Gifted-ad* Thank you Honest Pizzas for the complimentary pizza evening. I ordered via their website, picked up the precious cargo, hurried home and tucked in. From the ease of ordering via website, to the option of having take-away tiramisu (a rarity for a take-away pizza place), Honest Pizzas is a welcome addition to Derby’s dining scene.
It is courageous to open a new eatery in this current climate where uncertainty prevails and public health as at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Following on from the news of Honest Pizzas’ official launch tomorrow, it was a pleasure to receive gifted pizzas from Honest Pizzas.
I ordered via their website last night. From ease of placing an order to indulging in food atypical of a take-away (tiramisu to eat out is a rarity), Honest Pizzas is a welcome addition to Derby’s dining scene.
We ordered:
- #6 Classic Tomato / Pulled Iberico Chorizo / Mozzarella / Candied Hot Chillies / Red Onion
- #9 Classic Tomato / Garlic / Honest Herb Seasoning / Black Olives / Wood-Fired Red Peppers / Mozzarella / Sun-Blushed Tomatoes
- Soft Baked Choc Chip Cookies
- Tiramisu
The flavour profile of Number 6 was piquant and spicy. Not the fiery heat of say, a regular bullet chilli, but more of a playful warmth delivered via candied chillies. I liked the combination of sweet red peppers with the tangy sun-blushed tomatoes of the Number 9. Although the herb combination of this pizza was good, my personal favourite was the meaty moreishness of the Iberico chorizo topped beauty.
Overall I enjoyed both pizzas and thought the base had a satisfying light chew and yeasty tang (more discernible in the bloomed crusty outer ring).
I liked the crust so much, I had to call Honest Pizzas to ask how they made it. (Thank you, Easton, for bearing with me and not thinking I’m weird asking detailed questions about the dough.) I discovered Honest Pizzas’ dough is made from Italian flour proven in drums for a minimum of 24 hours. It is then hand-stretched as soon as the order comes in then topped to spec.
It would be nice to have a few balls of this dough in the freezer (I have hybrid dishes on the brain as I’m in the middle of creating a new recipe for a food festival organiser – more on that in a standalone post).
We were too full to eat dessert on the day, which is why I nuked the soft-baked cookies in tentative 10 second blasts to make them softer and squishy again.
Chocolatey, very sweet and perfect when warm, these cookies are a treat and also make a great accompaniment to coffee for the morning after. I haven’t tried the tiramisu yet – that’s on the menu for supper tonight, so I’ll be sure to hop back and update this review once I’ve tasted it.
It is good to know that there is a good local pizza joint (it’s not far at all from where I live), and I have a feeling I will be seeing Number 6 again very soon.
Honest Pizzas, I wish you the very best with your new venture. Stay safe.
