Book club read of the month was Happy Bloody Christmas by Jo Middleton.

Traditionally, our Christmas reads over the festive season have been more hit than miss.

Would Jo’s festive tome deliver happy Christmas vibes?

I really enjoyed the beginning, the character’s view point was funny and I loved how humorous she was.

A quick plot recap is, a woman wakes up the day after her Christmas party to find her murdered boss slumped in her pantry.

The boss wasn’t a very nice person so there are plenty of people ‘whodunnit’.

I love murder mysteries, so this book really should have spoke to me.

Alas it didn’t, whole chunks of the text just a little too repetitive and I didn’t find it easy reading at all from around 20%.

I skim read till around 80% and read the full ending, which was a little predictable but not offensive.

I think people may like this book if they can see past the cloggy, weighted text.

A few others in my book group read it and enjoyed, so the book has its fans, alas it’s not for me.
