Hey y’all,
How are you doing? This is just a real quick post to say that this Derby foodie managed to check out the newest addition to Derby’s Intu Shopping Mall, Krispy Kreme. It opened a few weeks ago and I had refrained until now, because I’ve been eating healthily. Today, I threw caution to the wind and with the words of Nike ringing in my ears, “I just did it.”
It occupies quite a small island-esque space in the middle foyer of the ground floor. With people milling around, it can be quite nice as you settle down into a cool cream coloured booth or chair.
As part of the Coffee Combo, I chose a small coffee and two doughnuts. It’s a shame that there were no deals for a single doughnut with coffee, as I think these would be a bestseller for solo shoppers wanting a quick pick-me-up.
I have only had one doughnut (I couldn’t stomach two). The Lotus Caramelised Biscoff was truly delicious. It’s filled with Kreme infused with Lotus caramelised biscuit spread, making it an indulgent, dreamy, creamy affair. More biscuit spread sits atop the doughnut, topped with moreish biscuit crumb and white chocolate shavings.
On Krispy Kreme’s website, their Salted Caramel Cheesecake offering is described as being hand-dipped in cheesecake icing and filled with a salted caramel and vanilla cheesecake. It’s then topped with crunchy biscuit and salted caramel pieces finished with a salted caramel drizzle. (I’ll be giving this to The Dude, although I may sneak in a teeny tiny mouthful.) My latte was decent if not a little weak, but overall, a good drink.
It’s clear there is a market for good quality doughnuts in the Intu Derby. I wasn’t surprised to find a queue and after a wait of around three minutes (it was busy lunch-hour rush), was commenced to be served by the lovely Tasha. The cabinet housing the actual doughnuts is quite small and I think expansion in the future would be a good thing. Nathan, team leader at Krispy Kreme’s is great. He’s a really chatty and engaging guy, who really cares about providing the best service and doughnuts for his customers. Krispy Kreme’s is a lovely little hangout and meeting spot. To quote Arnie from the Terminator, “I will be back!”
Keep up the fab work Krispy Kreme and see you soon!
