I love spending time in my kitchen, and I’m never happier than when baking a cake or experimenting with different flavour profiles. I cook every day, and I’m always on the look out for great ingredients and new cookbooks.
I visited Lunya last year to dine, and fell in love with their deli. Gleaming fat olives washed down with a glass of Tramuz Ribera del Duero was divine, and I recall thinking what a gorgeous place it was to “just be”.
It’s a real feast for the all senses, filled to the brim with gorgeous Spanish and Catalan products, with everything from chorizo to manchego, gin to olive oil, and boquerones to jamon.
Owners, Peter and Elaine Kinsella, travel to Catalunya and Spain throughout the year to meet with suppliers and bring the very best seasonal produce back to their delis in Manchester and Liverpool.
Many of these products you won’t find anywhere else in the UK, making Lunya a veritable haven for food lovers across the country. All products are available to buy in store in Manchester and Liverpool or via their online shop.
It’s the largest collection of Spanish products in the UK, so with this much choice Peter and Elaine have kindly chosen their seasonal favourites each month so that you can bring a fabulous taste of Spain to your home all year round.
Here are Peter and Elaine’s top 5 deli picks for July:
100ml, £8.95
This speciality oil is purely made from 100% Arbequina olives and, as opposed to infused oils, it is crushed and pressed together with coffee beans. This means you get an incredible flavour and all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in coffee beans and olives. A show stopping addition to summer salads.
Lunya Chorizo – Chorizo Parilla Picante (cooking)
400g, £5.80
Made to Lunya’s very own recipe by a butcher in La Rioja. Pack of 6 spicy cooking chorizo, very lightly cured; lean cuts of belly pork and shoulder, flavoured with smoked paprika and garlic, this cooking chorizo oozes out the most fantastic juices to flavour any dish. This is pure heaven on the BBQ.
100g, £6.75
Cold smoked plump Cantabrian anchovies – heaven on a plate. From Nardin of Zumaia in the Basque Country, these are gently smoked (in a similar way to salmon), giving soft plump flesh and a sweet, smoky flavour. These are quite possibly the best fish product ever according to Peter and Elaine! Amp up the summer sophistication on your al fresco dining table this July with a plate of these – simply put on a plate, produce of this quality needs no preparation or additions.
150g Tin, £2.95
A tin of Perello giant Andalucian Gordal olives, cured in a spicy brine with Guindilla chillies. These are firm, fleshy, juicy and with a lovely gentle spicy kick. Olives can’t get better than this – enjoy with a glass of chilled white wine in the sunshine.
250ml, £2.65
The iced version of the cafe con leche served in Lunya, from Barcelona and the world’s best coffee, Saula. Ready to drink and perfect for a caffeine hit in the heat!
Do you already cook with Lunya’s carefully sourced produce? If so, get in touch, I would love to swap recipes.
