– Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards Winners Announced –
Foodie royalty was out in force for the sixth annual Fortnum & Mason Food & Drink awards hosted by Claudia Winkleman. The highlight of the food and drink calendar, the prestigious awards celebrate the very best writers, publishers, presenters, image-makers and personalities working in the industry today.
Winners are selected by an expert panel of judges which this year included Dan Keeling, Diana Henry, Henry Jeffreys, José Pizarro, Marina O’Loughlin, and Pete Brown, chaired by Fortnum & Mason CEO, Ewan Venters. To be eligible to win, work must have been published or broadcast during 2017.
Cookery Book went to chef Stephen Harris, for his book The Sportsman, which tells the story of his life and how he came to start the Michelin-starred Kent pub by the same name. Samin Nosrat collected the Debut Food Book for Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat which unmasks the four elements of cooking with a buoyant approach to kitchen science.
Celebrating food and drink in pictures, the Photographer award was snapped up by Hugh Johnson for work including images on the Kricket restaurant menu and book by Will Bowlby.
Restaurant Writer went to Jay Rayner for work in The Observer Magazine and regular winner, Bee Wilson, won Food Writer for her work in The Guardian and Observer Food Monthly.
Nadiya Hussain, who rose to fame after winning The Great British Bake Off in 2015, walked off with not only the Programme award for Nadiya’s British Food Adventure, but also the Personality of the Year – the only category voted for by the public.
Fortnum & Mason CEO, Ewan Venters, said: “This year’s winners exhibit exceptional skill and knowledge and represent a sensational breadth of work that we’re delighted to encourage and celebrate at the Awards.”
