An increasing number of diners are choosing to go meat- and dairy- free. Choosing a plant-based diet has never been more ethically appealing and en vogue. It is therefore great to see revered establishments such as Ye Olde Bell embrace this trend by hosting a specialty vegan evening this June.

Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa a privately owned 59 room country hotel dating back to the 17th Century. Located in the pretty village of Barnby Moor, on the corners of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, it rose to prominence as an important stop between London and Edinburgh with the inauguration of the postal service in 1635.

It has welcomed illustrious guests throughout its history, including a young Queen Victoria who stayed with her mother. One of its four suites is now named the Victoria Suite in her honour.

There are 59 rooms, suites and lodges all of which have been passionately restored and individually styled by the owners with period furniture, luxurious fabrics and contemporary bathrooms.

It was recently reported that the number of vegans in the UK has sky rocketed, with 3.5 million people choosing veganism this year compared to 540,000 in 2016. Many more are also conscious of eating less meat and dairy (including yours truly).

The Vegan Speciality Evening will be held on Friday, 15 June. The menu includes five courses, paired with vegan wine and cocktails.

These include the likes of baked tofu, braised fennel and tomato confit paired with Bloody Maria. Roast aubergine, haricot, vert pepper ragu with wilted celeriac served with white wine, Cuma organic Torrontes, El Esteco and Banana Populot – bananas, raspberry coulis with vanilla baked in paper envelope accompanied by super minty-chocatini martini sounds delicious. Non alcoholic alternatives are available.

The menus at Ye Olde Bell feature vegan dishes and they are always happy to try and cater for any dietary requirement their guests may have.

The vegan menu is priced at £45 per person, and guests are asked to arrive at 7pm ready to sit down for dinner at 7.30pm.

Ye Olde Bell are hosting a series of foodie events throughout the summer. The next Speciality Evenings are Cocktails & Canapes on 13 July and Sangria and Seafood on 17 August.
