Seasons tend to impact my reading choices, so I’ll be even more drawn to gothic fiction such as Wuthering Heights in the darker, colder months of winter.
High summer meant I was glad of a nice, light read in the form of The Woman Who Ran Away From Everything by Fiona Gibson.
I think we’ve all, at some point in our lives, contemplated this flight of fancy, and Fiona’s book uses this curious desire to base a full book on it.
Summery read that is easy to enjoy: The Woman Who Ran Away From Everything by Fiona Gibson
Housewife Kate, broken by the last straw of a lazy husband throwing an impromptu party – and expecting her to cook with just a few minutes’ notice – crawls through a window and disappears.
Her adventure takes her across the country where she meets new friends, intriguing scenarios and a potential long-lost love.
This book was chosen at book club, it is not something I would have picked up, but I really enjoyed reading it.
And that I think is the beauty of a book club, it forces you out of your comfort zone and expands your horizons.
I am not familiar with Fiona Gibson’s work, maybe because chick lit is not a genre I am naturally drawn to.
There were some laugh out loud moments, I listened to the book on Audible and loved narrator Eilidh Beaton’s character portrayal.
Both Kate and husband Vince’s character arc undergo transformations, which I think is a nice touch.
You do have to suspend a high amount of disbelief because there are a lot of coincidences, but because the book is humorous and light-hearted, it is forgiven.
For an easy summery read that is also very funny, I would totally recommend The Woman Who Ran Away From Everything.
